Building a Bridge to the Future Through Teen Workforce Development Event

We kicked off 2013 with an amazing event featuring Guy Fieri!  On January 18th we hosted nearly 200 members of the community as we launched our new interactive career exploration website, jobsmadereal.com, and we were awarded an Awesome Pretzel Cart from Guy Fieri’s Cooking with Kids Foundation, which will anchor our workforce program portfolio.  Teens who complete our RU REady? Work Ready Certificate Program will then be ready to work the Awesome Pretzel Cart.  Look for the Chop’s Teen Club Pretzel Crew around town, where  you’ll be greeted with a smile and served a delicious pretzel!  Guy was on hand at our event to speak about the value of teens learning work skills, and how he got started with his own pretzel cart his dad built when he was a teen.  Guy also presented Chop’s Teen Club with $5,000 towards our teaching kitchen upgrade.  Our goal is to raise $40,000 to make our kitchen commercially graded so that teens can prepare and sell food items, and the Cooking with Kids Foundation investment was a great start to the campaign!

Our first gala fundraising event was a huge success, raising a net of nearly $70,000!  It was an incredible evening of great food, entertainment and the opportunity to showcase what we do here at Chop’s Teen Club.   As a team we were all inspired by the spirit of generosity we felt that evening, and were thrilled to have witnessed so many community members connecting to our mission.  Mark your calendars for
Back to the Future 2013, set for September 7th!
